[REVIEW] Pocket PC Processor war in 2009?

We’d seen the war of the browsers in 2008 and apparently Opera won the laurels hands down. Will there be yet another war among the processors in 2009? Let’s find out!

A year ago, Qualcomm tipped off the tech zone about a 1GHz processor which hasn’t seen the light of the day yet! An entire year has passed us by and the fabled 1GHz processor still continues to elude us.

Then, NVIDIA whetted our insatiable appetites with announcements of the Tegra chip which promised high definition video playback. But, that’s where the story ends because, like Qualcomm, this one too hasn’t been spotted in the wild yet. NVIDIA’s still keeping us hooked by slipping out snatches of information about the Tegra chip. Rumor has it that HTC’s secretly scheming deals with NVIDIA to use this Tegra chip on their devices. Well, this means that there’s still some hope left that the Tegra would make its presence felt sooner or later.

Not to be left behind, ASUS made us daydream with the PXA930 800 MHz to fire up the Galaxy 7 device. But, as fate would have it, Galaxy 7 failed to impress and left us rather disheartened. Now, Marvel has decided to join the fray with the PXA 168 which flaunts a totally new design and structure. We’ve heard about a whole gamut of exciting features such as full-features web browsing, internet widgets, Adobe Flash based content playback, multi-format video, advanced graphical user interface (GUIs), video conferencing, image processing complete with a super-long battery life.

Moreover, this is touted to deliver the best in basic as well as sophisticated computer systems. Marvel ‘Sheeva’ technology is featured here with the power of reaching 1GHz mileage to meet the requirements. Well, if Qualcomm and NVIDIA buck up, then we’d get to see a real clash of the processors. On a final note, we pause to think, who will win the battle of the processors this year?
