Google reportedly starts testing Tensor G5 for Pixel 10

In July 2023, a report from The Information claimed that Google will get Tensor G5, the chipset that is expected to power the Pixel 10 series, manufactured by TSMC. Since then, there has been no update on the matter. Well, that’s changing today.

According to a new report from Economic Daily, Google has handed over the company’s “self-developed” version of Tensor to KYEC for testing. With the term ‘self-developed,’ the publication is most likely referring to Tensor G5. However, since the report is in the Chinese language, there’s a possibility that the publication is referring to something else and Google Translate mistranslated it. So, take the news with a pinch of salt.

If the news is indeed true, Google has completed the development of Tensor G5, the company’s first fully custom chipset, and it is on track to offer the SoC with the Pixel 10 series. For your reference, all the Tensor chipsets till today are based on Exynos processors. The upcoming Tensor G4, which is expected to power this year’s Pixel 9 series, will also be based on an Exynos chipset (Exynos 2400 to be more specific).
