ARM Moves to Terminate Qualcomm’s Chip Design License

While Qualcomm is currently in the spotlight with its new and powerful Snapdragon chipsets, not everything has been peachy for the company – in fact, new reports indicate that ARM has issued a notice to Qualcomm, notifying the latter of an impending termination with regards to its chip design license.

As such, Qualcomm has 60 days to respond and arrange a deal with ARM. Otherwise, the issue will be taken to court later this year. Given that Qualcomm relies a lot on ARM for its products, a major fallout between the two companies would undoubtedly result in some less-than-favourable outcomes.

The scuffle between the two companies stems from a legal dispute going a couple of years back wherein ARM took Qualcomm to court citing a breach of contract, in addition to trademark infringement over custom Phoenix cores, without consent from the former.
