Gemini could soon rival ChatGPT with its new privacy feature (Update: A closer look)

• This feature could be similar to ChatGPT’s Temporary Chats, which give users a blank slate for conversation and doesn’t save any memory.
• We were able to subsequently take a closer look at this feature via more screenshots.

Update: July 1, 2025 (8:30 AM ET): We uncovered evidence of a temporary chat feature in Gemini earlier this month (see the original article below). We were only able to provide one screenshot at the time, but we’ve now been able to delve a little deeper. Check out the screens below.


Our new images confirm that this is indeed a temporary chat feature. Google’s description notes that these chats don’t appear in Gemini Apps Activity or in Recent Chats. The description also says that these chats aren’t used to train models or for personalization, although they are retained for 72 hours.
