The iPhone 17 Pro Max could finally deliver what power users have been asking for. A new leak from tipster “Instant Digital” suggests that Apple is planning to equip the iPhone 17 Pro Max with a 5,000mAh battery, making it the biggest battery ever seen in an iPhone.
That would be a major upgrade over the current iPhone 16 Pro Max, which features a 4,676mAh cell. Even the 15 Pro Max only had 4,422mAh. Apple tends to make incremental changes to battery capacity, so a jump of this size would be one of the most noticeable in recent memory.
If true, the iPhone 17 Pro Max battery bump could translate to longer screen time, fewer mid-day charges, and more breathing room for demanding use cases like 4K video recording, gaming, and long photo sessions. Combined with Apple’s ongoing efficiency gains from new A-series chips and software tuning, the results could be impressive.
Interestingly, Apple is also rumored to debut a silicon carbon battery in the thinner iPhone 17 Air. This tech allows batteries to maintain the same capacity in a smaller, more compact form factor. It’s a smart solution for ultra-slim phones, but it looks like Apple isn’t using it for the rest of the iPhone 17 lineup just yet. A missed opportunity, maybe.
