The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is the flip phone Samsung should’ve launched years ago

Samsung didn’t reinvent the foldable with the Galaxy Z Flip 7, but it might’ve finally nailed the formula.

The most noticeable upgrade is the new 4.1-inch FlexWindow. It stretches edge to edge, runs at 120Hz, and hits 2,600 nits peak brightness. Compared to last year’s Flip 6, this thing feels alive. You can now send replies, check your calendar, run apps, and take selfies—all without opening the phone. It’s not just a notification ticker anymore. It’s a mini phone.

Battery life finally gets a proper bump too. The 4,300mAh cell outpaces the Flip 6’s 4,000mAh. However, it still doesn’t match the Razr 60 Ultra’s 4,700mAh. But at least, the Flip 7 doesn’t feel like it’s sprinting toward a charger anymore. Plus, Samsung throws in DeX support for the first time, so yes, you can plug it into a monitor and get desktop-style multitasking.

As for cameras, there’s a 50MP main sensor with improved Nightography, 10-bit HDR video, and a Zoom Slider that lets you quickly reframe shots right from the cover screen. Dual Preview still lets both the subject and the shooter see the frame in real-time. And there’s a new Portrait Studio mode for playful pet portraits and stylized edits, including cartoon and fisheye effects.

The Z Flip 7 ships with One UI 8 on Android 16, and includes new personalization tools that let the clock, wallpaper, and widgets adapt dynamically on the cover screen. You also get AI-powered features like Now Bar for glanceable updates, and Now Brief for a morning digest of weather, traffic, health stats, and your calendar.

Sure, the Razr 60 Ultra might beat it on raw specs, such as having a brighter display, faster charging, and a better selfie camera. However, Samsung is betting on refinement and software.

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 starts at $1,099.99, with pre-orders open now and general availability from July 25. It comes in Jet Black, Blue Shadow, and Coral Red, with an exclusive Mint color available through Samsung.com.
