Samsung has some nerve asking $899 for the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE

Samsung just announced the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7, and both bring many upgrades that fans have been asking for. Samsung launched another foldable alongside the Fold 7 and Flip 7: the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE. It's the company's first Fan Edition foldable, and unlike the Flip 7, it actually takes a couple of steps backward. The worst part? Samsung wants $899 for it.

At first glance, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE is just a Galaxy Z Flip 6 in disguise. But while it features mostly the same hardware, there are a couple of differences: it uses Samsung's Exynos 2400 processor instead of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and comes with 8GB of RAM instead of 12GB.

Now, the Exynos 2400 is a solid chip. And it's close enough to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in all metrics to be a downgrade in the true sense of the word. Still, you're paying $899 for what is essentially last year's phone with slightly weaker specs.

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE does have one advantage. It comes preloaded with Android 16 and One UI 8 out of the box, while the Galaxy Z Flip 6 launched with One UI 6.1.1. Both devices are promised seven major OS upgrades, which means the Flip 7 FE will go two versions further.

But the Flip 6 is still eligible for five more updates, which is more than enough for most people. And here's the kicker: the Flip 6 is available at considerably lower prices from Amazon and other third-party retailers. Samsung may have stopped selling the 2024 model through official channels in many regions, but that doesn't mean the phone isn't actually still available for purchase.

The $899 price tag of the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE just doesn't sit right, especially for a Fan Edition device. FE phones are supposed to strike a balance between affordability and premium features, and the least Samsung could have done is offer the exact same specs as the Flip 6. Instead, what we get feels like a half-hearted rebrand at a price that's not easy to justify.
