Samsung tri-fold phone could be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite

Samsung’s first tri-fold smartphone is one step closer to reality, and now we know which chip will power it. According to a new report, the Snapdragon 8 Elite will be at the heart of the device. A code string spotted in the internal beta of One UI 8 revealed the processor model number SM8750, paired with the codename Q7M, which is believed to refer to Samsung’s tri-fold.

It’s not a huge surprise. Samsung already uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite in the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy Z Fold 7, so sticking with Qualcomm’s top-tier chip makes sense—especially for a premium device like this.

The tri-fold is expected to ship with Android 16 and One UI 8 out of the box, and will likely get Samsung’s standard 7-year update promise. That’s become the norm for flagship devices, and this one’s shaping up to be in that tier.

Samsung also recently trademarked the name “Galaxy Z TriFold.” While it’s not clear if that’s the final name, it lines up with what we’re expecting. The device is rumored to feature a 10-inch foldable display, two hinges, and a triple rear camera setup. Unlike Huawei’s Mate X-style outward fold, Samsung’s design folds inward, offering better screen protection when closed. It’ll also include a traditional cover display, just like the Fold series.

As for price, be prepared to pay a hefty sum for it. Rumors suggest it could approach $3,000. The launch is reportedly slated for October, though availability may be limited to South Korea and China at first.
