If you’re using a Pixel phone or tablet, it’s time to grab the latest Android update. Google just started rolling out the August 2025 Pixel update, and this one patches up some serious issues.
At the top of the list is a critical security vulnerability. This vulnerability could have allowed remote code execution with zero user interaction. According to Google, this flaw labeled CVE-2025-48530 could be exploited without needing you to install anything, open anything, or even touch your device. It’s as bad as it sounds.
The update includes two critical-severity patches and four others marked as high risk. Pixel devices also get a modem-specific fix not included in the broader Android security bulletin. If you’re still running one of the older Pixel models, like the Pixel 6 or 6 Pro, this update covers you too, even though those devices were oddly left out of last month’s release window.
The other big fix is one Pixel users have been waiting on for a while. Ever since Android 16 launched in June, many people reported that the back button or gesture would stop working randomly, with no fix besides rebooting. While beta testers got a fix late June, the July update didn’t solve it for users on the stable channel. Thankfully, Google says that bug is finally resolved in today’s release.
There’s also a fix for a scheduled dark theme issue and some general stability and performance improvements. Nothing major, but still worth having.
The update is rolling out now to all supported Pixel devices. As usual, it may take a few days to hit your device. If you want to check manually, go to Settings → System → Software updates → System update and tap Check for updates.
