OnePlus 15 could ditch Hasselblad and debut bold new camera design

The OnePlus 15 might skip Hasselblad branding entirely. That’s the latest rumor making the rounds, even as Oppo, OnePlus’ close sibling brand, recently renewed its partnership with the iconic camera company.

To help the phone stand out without the Hasselblad name, OnePlus could be going for a new look altogether. Industry leaker Digital Chat Station claims the OnePlus 15 will feature a bold square-shaped “matrix” camera module instead of the circular setup we saw on the OnePlus 13. It’s said to pack three 50MP sensors, including a periscope zoom camera.

Design-wise, this wouldn’t be the first time OnePlus has tried a square module. The OnePlus 10 Pro used one too. Breaking away from that now, especially while introducing a massive 7-inch flat display, feels like a bold choice.

The panel will reportedly have a 1.5K resolution (2160 x 1440), which might leave some expecting a full 2K screen scratching their heads. The phone may also support 100W fast charging, which isn’t surprising given the brand’s past moves.

If the Hasselblad partnership really is over, OnePlus might follow the same path as Huawei. After splitting with Leica, Huawei built its own Xmage camera system. OnePlus could be looking to do something similar by rebranding its imaging hardware and building a new identity.

Just keep in mind, none of this is official yet. The camera design, the specs, and the Hasselblad rumors are still unconfirmed.
