The Pixel 10 Pro Fold has a big edge over the Galaxy Z Fold 7, with one catch

    • The Pixel 10 Pro Fold offers the highest level of water and dust protection on a phone.
    • Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 offers very limited protection from dust and water ingress.
    • That said, based solely on fold ratings, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 may survive longer than the Pixel 10 Pro Fold.

Google has launched the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, and it’s shaping up to be quite an attractive foldable, at least from what we’ve seen so far. The one thing it lacks, though, is an ultra-thin body that can rival the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Samsung’s foldable is one of the best flagship phones I’ve held in 2025, and given that it’s a foldable phone, its slim profile is all the more impressive. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is noticeably chunkier, measuring 10.1mm thick compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s slim 8.9mm profile when folded. However, while Samsung prioritized a thinner design, Google used the extra bulk to give the Pixel 10 Pro Fold a significant durability edge.

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is IP68 certified compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s IP48 rating. Why is that a big deal? Well, for foldable phones, durability is a major concern, and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold’s IP68 rating is significantly superior to the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s IP48. IP68 means the foldable Pixel is fully dust-tight and can survive full submersion in water, while IP48 only offers very limited dust protection and resistance to light splashes. In practice, that means the Pixel can handle far harsher real-world conditions, like a day at the beach or an accidental dunk in fresh water, without the same risk of damage, a huge reassurance for an expensive and complex device with moving parts.
