With school finally back in session, Google recently announced that it’s bringing over new updates to Gemini, which includes a series of new tools designed to assist with critical thinking and academic efficiency. The new features include guided learning, integrated visuals, and exam preparation.
First up is “Guided Learning,” which Google says is aimed at helping users build a deeper understanding of complex topics. The feature functions as an AI learning companion, and breaks down problems step-by-step, all the while adapting explanations to the user’s needs. It’s also designed to assist with understanding the reasoning behind concepts, and can create study guides from course files or explain topics using videos and visuals.
With “Integrated Visuals,” Gemini can now include related images, diagrams, and YouTube videos into its responses, which Google says is designed to help users more easily grasp complex subjects by providing visual aids alongside text explanations. As mentioned earlier, the new update also comes with “Exam Preparation Tools,” allowing users to ask Gemini to create flashcards and study guides from their own class materials or quiz results.
Google says that the new tools were developed using recent research on AI use in education. A study involving 7,000 European teenagers found that over two-thirds of them are already using AI tools for learning on a weekly basis.
