Apple has announced the iPhone Air, its thinnest iPhone yet. At just 5.6mm thick, it’s one of the slimmest smartphones available right now. Apple is also hyping up features like a super bright display, the powerful A19 Pro chip, and a new 18MP front-facing camera, but the main selling point is how slim this new iPhone is.
Earlier this year, Samsung launched the Galaxy S25 Edge, its own take on an ultra-thin premium smartphone. And the question many are asking right now is which of the phones is thinner. Well, that would be the iPhone Air, as the Galaxy S25 Edge comes in at 5.8mm.
Galaxy S25 Edge gives you two rear cameras for 0.2mm extra thickness
Just based on the thickness, the iPhone Air is the clear winner. But where Samsung strikes back is in the camera department. The Galaxy S25 Edge sports a 200MP main rear camera that can take optical-quality 2x zoom shots by using in-sensor cropping and delivers excellent results at 3x-5x magnification using digital zoom.
The S25 Edge also comes with a 12MP ultrawide camera, something the iPhone Air doesn’t offer. Apple is also highlighting optical-quality 2x zoom, but without an ultrawide camera, the iPhone Air falls short of the versatility Samsung brings to the table. Whether it’s the smallest Galaxy S model or the thinnest, Samsung gives you more cameras than Apple.
At the end of the day, the arrival of the iPhone Air is a welcome one. Whether you’re in the Apple ecosystem or Samsung’s Galaxy, you now have the choice of a flagship device that is super thin but doesn't compromise on the flagship experience. And with Apple joining the competition, Samsung has even more reason to make the next Galaxy S Edge even better and iron out the minor shortcomings of the last one.
