Samsung has been offering phones with the Voice over New Radio (VoNR) feature for quite some time now. Also known as Vo5G, it can make calls using the 5G network, which eliminates the need for phones to fall back on 4G to make calls, offers faster call setup times, better voice quality, improved battery life, and more reliable connections. Well, Galaxy phone users across India can finally enjoy this feature, thanks to Jio.
Reliance Jio, one of India’s leading mobile network carriers, has announced that it has started rolling out VoNR/Vo5G across the country (via S M A Sithick). With that, Samsung smartphone users on the Jio network can use the feature to experience improved network, call quality, and battery life. So, do you need to activate VoNR or Vo5G on Galaxy phones manually? If yes, then how do you do that? Well, let’s take a look.

How to activate VoNR or Vo5G on Samsung Galaxy smartphones?
On Samsung smartphones, to enable VoNR or Vo5G, go to Setting » Connections » Mobile networks and activate the VoNR (Voice over 5G) feature. Once you do that and if your network carrier supports the feature, you should see Vo5G icon in the status bar, indicating that the feature is active.
Many recently launched Samsung Galaxy Z, Galaxy S, Galaxy A, Galaxy M, and Galaxy F series smartphones offer the VoNR or Vo5G feature, including Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, Galaxy S25 series, Galaxy A56, Galaxy A36, Galaxy M56, Galaxy M36, Galaxy F56, and Galaxy F36.
Note that the person on the other end of the call also need to be on VoNR or Vo5G for you to experience faster call setup times, better call quality, improved battery life, and more reliable connection. If not, the connection will fall back to VoLTE or other protocols.
