Backbone unveils its officially licensed PlayStation mobile gaming controller

These days, we’re seeing more mobile games starting to support external controllers. For Android users, you can even pair Xbox or PlayStation controllers to your phone, but the problem is that these types of controllers are a bit troublesome to bring around. This is why mobile gaming controllers that grip your smartphone are a popular alternative, and it looks like the folks over at Backbone have announced that they are launching an officially licensed PlayStation mobile controller. This is essentially the Backbone One except that it has been themed to look like a PlayStation controller.

According to Maneet Khaira, Backbone’s CEO:
“The look and feel of the Backbone One – PlayStation Edition was brought to life by our design team in collaboration with the brilliant minds at PlayStation. The elegant colors, materials, and finishes are all inspired by the design of the PS5 console’s DualSense wireless controller, all the way down to the transparent face buttons and its visually distinctive, floating appearance. It feels right at home with the other products in the PS5 lineup, like the Pulse 3D headset, which you can connect directly to the Backbone One – PlayStation Edition.”

Unfortunately for Android users, it appears that this PlayStation Edition controller is only available for iPhones at the moment. There is no mention of whether or not there are plans to eventually release one for Android, but to be fair, Backbone already has an Android controller that you can pre-order and it is estimated to ship in November.

It is essentially the same, just minus the design and the PlayStation-themed buttons and icons. For iPhone users who might be keen on the Backbone One – PlayStation Edition, you can go ahead and order it from the company’s website where it is priced at $99.99.
