New Samsung XCover Phone Leaks



Samsung’s Galaxy XCover series devices have always set themselves apart by offering a more robust and durable design compared to the other “standard” smartphone offerings from the Korean tech giant. Built to be tougher, the Galaxy XCover phones feature designs that are made to withstand daily drops and bumps. A new leak from Onleaks and Zoutons points to the existence of a newer XCover model, which might be released this year.

Dubbed the “XCover Pro 2,” the device will feature a 6.56-inch display with a notch for the front-facing camera, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, 3.5-mm headphone jack, and is expected to come with 5G compatibility. The phone is also predicted to come with the Exynos 1280 chipset, the same one found on the new Samsung Galaxy A53 and A33, and will have Android 12 at launch. The leaked images also show thick bezels around the phone’s display, which is unsurprising given the device’s rugged hardware style.

The leak points to a possible release date around summertime this year, although there’s been no official word from Samsung yet regarding the full price and availability of the phone.

Samsung’s most recent rugged phone was the Galaxy XCover Pro, which was launched back in 2020. The phone featured midrange hardware including an Exynos 9611 chipset, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, IP68 dust and water protection, and an IPS display with Gorilla Glass 5 protection. One notable feature of the device was the removable 4050 mAh battery, which is a rare sight on modern smartphones. If these specs are any indication, then the leaked XCover Pro 2 specs seem very accurate.

Rugged phones are rather uncommon in the general smartphone market, with a majority of brands and manufacturers focusing instead on more standard smartphone designs. However, other brands like Motorola and Nokia also sell rugged smartphones like the Motorola Defy and Nokia XR20, which come with midrange specifications, in addition to rugged designs.
