Celebrate Chrome OS with a new Redesign

Google is gearing up for a Google Chrome big update, describing what’s new in Chrome OS 100. Which will begin rolling out in the next few weeks, after the desktop browser and mobile apps. The new Launcher in Chrome OS 100 is evocative of a previous look (circa 2015). Today, pressing the Everything Button brings up a sheet with a search area and about five app/website chip recommendations. You can expand the drawer to fill the entire screen with an application grid.

A blast from the past, with a touch of the future

“All Chromebooks will soon receive a new design for the Launcher,” according to Google. The new launcher will now feature a left-hand floating pane that doesn’t take up the entire screen. This method is intended to provide “greater space for any open windows.” You may manually categorize programs by name or even icon colour.

Weather, math problems, and other results are getting a huge makeover, with previews providing more information than ever “without leaving Launcher.”

Other than that, voice dictation (Everything Button + D key, which you must enable in Settings ahead of time) will support basic edit commands. Things like deleting words, making checklists and the like are going to be supported with a touch of a key.

Image Source: GoogleGoogle provided some developer blog postings about Chromebooks as part of the relaunch news. One is dedicated to the development of Chrome Cursive, while the other is dedicated to the Android Runtime on Chrome OS (ARC), which enables mobile apps from the Google Play Store. Google introduced ARCVM last year, following the previous NaCl-based version and ARC++ (Android 6, 7, and 9).
