Here are the best 4G LTE laptops you can buy in 2022
Nowadays, the market is flooded with fantastic laptops that can do everything you want and then some. There are lots of devices out there, and you’re usually spoiled for choice. However, if you want a laptop that can stay connected on the road, your options are a bit more limited. Laptops with 4G or even 5G are starting to become more prominent, but they’re still not that common. That doesn’t mean you don’t have options, and we’ve rounded up some of the best 4G laptops you can buy. Having a laptop with 4G is a bigger deal than you might think initially. First, of course, you can stay connected pretty much anywhere you go. If you’re on a train or the back of a car, you can still get work done with 4G connectivity. But even if you’re more stationary, like at a train station, a 4G laptop can help you browse the internet more securely. Public Wi-Fi networks are prime targets for security risks, so you really don’t want your personal data flowing through them. 4G connectivity in a laptop usually comes at a premium though, so you have to be ready to spend a little extra money. However, there are some affordable options that include 4G support, and you should still be able to find something that fits your budget. Navigate this article:
 Most laptops that come with 4G cellular network support are business laptops, and Lenovo is one of the most prominent names in this space. As such, it’s no surprise to see the company make an appearance on this list with the ThinkPad X1 Carbon, its most iconic laptop. This is one of Lenovo’s longest-standing products, but the latest iteration is modern where it counts. Starting with performance, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon comes with the 12th-generation Intel Core laptop processors up to a Core i7-1280P. This processor comes from Intel’s P series, which has a 28W TDP, and this specific model has 14 cores, 20 threads, and boost speeds up to 4.8GHz, so you’re getting a ton of performance here. Plus, Intel Iris Xe integrated graphics can handle some light workloads. In addition to that, you can configure it with up to 32GB of RAM, which is more than you’ll probably ever need in day-to-day use. Finally, it comes with up to 2TB of SSD for all your files. Moving on to the display, the latest iteration of the ThinkPad X1 Carbon comes with a 14-inch display with a 16:10 aspect ratio, which is taller than a typical 16:9 screen you might see on some other laptops. The base configuration includes a Full HD+ (1920 x 1200) and you have upgrade options like adding touch support or a privacy screen. If you don’t care about that, there are a few more interesting options: A 2.2K IPS panel for a little extra sharpness, or a much more interesting 2.8K OLED display, which is super sharp and also has benefits like true blacks and vibrant colors. If you want the highest resolution possible, there’s also an option for an Ultra HD+ (3840 x 2400) panel. Some of these panes include optional touch support, too. Above the display is a 1080p webcam, something that’s thankfully becoming more common in laptops in 2022. There’s a privacy shutter, and if you want, you can add Windows Hello facial recognition, or even Computer Vision, which makes it so that the laptop can tell when you approach it or walk away from it, so that it wakes up or locks itself accordingly. There’s also a fingerprint reader for Windows Hello if you prefer that. The ThinkPad X1 Carbon’s design is one of the most iconic in the business world, and it’s pretty much all here with the latest model. It’s black with red accents, and elements like the pointing stick on the keyboard and buttons above the trackpad are all here. However, this model is very thin and light, measuring just 15.36mm in thickness and weighing 2.48lbs. Lenovo modernized this design where it matters, so it’s very portable while retaining the iconic ThinkPad look. The ThinkPad X1 Carbon also has a very solid selection of ports: two Thunderbolt 4 ports, two USB Type-A ports, HDMI, and a headphone jack, plus a nano-SIM slot for the cellular-enabled version. That gives you plenty of connectivity options, and you shouldn’t be missing anything here, though it would have been preferred to have one Thunderbolt port on each side. Rounding out the connectivity options, of course, there’s optional 4G support, which is powered by the Fibocom L860-GL-16 modem. This modem supports LTE Cat 16, and it promises speeds up to 1Gbps for downloads and 150Mbps for uploads. You can always upgrade to the Fibocom FM350-GL modem if you want 5G speeds, but that’s not the point of this list. This is an absolutely iconic laptop with modern features like a thin and light design and LTE support. If you need a business laptop with 4G support, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon is one of your best choices.
Also great: HP Elite Dragonfly G3  As iconic as the look of the ThinkPad X1 Carbon is, it definitely feels a bit retro, and not necessarily in a good way. If you want something a bit more modern, the HP Elite Dragonfly is another phenomenal business laptop, and it’s not just different in terms of design. There are some good reasons to want this instead. Similar to the laptop above, the HP Elite Dragonfly G3 also comes with 12th-generation Intel processors, but these don’t come from the P series. Instead, Intel is sticking with the U15 series, so you can go up to an Intel Core i7-1265U, which gives you 10 cores, 12 threads, and boost speeds up to 4.8GHz. That won’t get you the same level of performance as the P-series processors, but that’s because these processors have a 15W TDP, which means they’re more efficient and you’ll get better battery life out of them. Plus, you still get Iris Xe integrated graphics, and you can configure it with up to 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD, so this is still a premium laptop all around. The Elite Dragonfly G3 comes with a 13.5-inch display, and it has a 3:2 aspect ratio. This uncommon format is even taller than 16:10, so if you enjoy the productivity benefits of taller screens, they apply even more so in this case. The base model has Full HD+ (1920 x 1280) resolution, and you can add touch support, an anti-glare coating, or even HP Sure View Reflect, a privacy screen to prevent others from peeking over your shoulder to see what you’re working on. Perhaps the most interesting upgrade is the 3K2K (3000 x 2000) OLED panel, which is much sharper and has the usual benefits that come with OLED displays, like true blacks and a high contrast ratio. HP has been leading the charge in terms of webcam quality this year, too. Like the company’s other premium laptops, the Elite Dragonfly comes with a 5MP webcam, which is enhanced by HP Presence. That includes features like auto framing and lighting correction. Of course, Windows Hello facial recognition is also supported, in addition to using a fingerprint. The most obvious differences between this and the Lenovo laptop above are in the design. The HP Elite Dragonfly goes for a much more modern – yet still professional and subdued – look with its silver chassis. There’s really nothing noteworthy about how it looks, though there’s also a Slate Blue model available. What the Elite Dragonfly G3 excels at is portability, starting at just 2.2lbs and measuring 16.26mm in thickness. In terms of connectivity, of course, there’s 4G LTE support, in this case powered by the Intel XMM 7560 R+ model, offering LTE Cat 16 speeds, which is about as good as it gets. 5G support is also available with the Intel 5000 5G solution, though it costs a bit more. For physical connections, you get two Thunderbolt 4 ports, one USB Type-A port, HDMI 2.1, and a headphone jack, so it’s a solid setup overall for a laptop of this size. A downside of the HP Elite Dragonfly G3 is that it’s very expensive unless you can find it on sale. Still, it’s a fantastic option that’s certainly worth considering.
Best AMD laptop: Lenovo ThinkPad Z13  A lot of the more popular laptops that support LTE come with Intel processors, but the ThinkPad Z13 is trying to change that, and it gets a lot right. This is Lenovo’s first premium ThinkPad with an AMD processor, and the company threw its full weight behind it, while also changing up the iconic ThinkPad design – in my opinion, for the better. It starts with AMD Ryzen Pro 6000 series processors, which aren’t all that common in laptops right now. Even in 2022, some devices are still coming out with last-gen AMD CPUs, so this is a great starting point. You can go up to a customized AMD Ryzen 7 Pro 6860Z, an 8-core, 16-thread processor with up to 4.73GHz clock speeds. This is a slightly boosted version of the Ryzen 7 Pro 6850U, and it’s exclusive to this laptop, which goes to show how much Lenovo cared about making it a great laptop. The processor also includes AMD Radeon 680M Graphics, which is likely the most powerful integrated GPU you can find on a laptop right now. Aside from that, up to 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD round out a premium set of specs. As the name suggests, the ThinkPad Z13 has a 13.3-inch display and it comes in the 16:10 aspect ratio, like most of Lenovo’s premium laptops. As is often the case, the base model comes in Full HD+ 91920 x 1200) resolution, with touch support being optional. But the best option is definitely the 2.8K (2880 x 1800) OLED panel, which is incredibly sharp for this size and also looks great with the vivid colors and true blacks OLED can provide. The OLED panel also supports touch by default. Lenovo also took care to put a great webcam in the ThinkPad Z13. Out of the box, you get a camera with 1080p resolution and f/2.0 aperture – most laptops don’t even mention the aperture for their webcams, which makes this all the more interesting. Windows Hello facial recognition is also included by default, but you can choose between a hybrid sensor or a discrete sensor. A hybrid sensor can lessen the image quality from the main camera, so a discrete sensor is naturally better, though a bit more expensive. What really makes this one of the best ThinkPads, in my opinion, is the design. The classic ThinkPad design works for long-time fans of the brand, but if you’re not already into it, it’s not a very appealing look. The ThinkPad Z13 actually modernizes the ThinkPad design while keeping some of the more important elements, like the red TrackPoint. Now, the duplicate mouse buttons above the touchpad are just clickable areas of the touchpad, so it feels more modern. It comes in two colors, Storm Grey and Vegan Leather Black, the latter featuring black vegan leather on the lid along with gold accents around the edges. This is also a very thin laptop, at 13.99mm, and it weighs 2.78lbs, so it’s fairly light. There’s something else that makes this laptop special, and that’s the fact that, even though it’s powered by AMD processors, it has Thunderbolt support. You get two Thunderbolt 4 ports here, so all your Thunderbolt accessories should work as they would on any Intel-based machine. The downside is that this is pretty much all you get, aside from a headphone jack for wired headphones. Adapters are almost required for most peripherals. Of course, we couldn’t forget 4G LTE support, which is an optional upgrade powered by the Fibocom L860-GL-16 modem, with support for LTE Cat16 speeds. There’s a lot that makes this a special laptop, whether you’re interested in the ThinkPad lineup or AMD-powered laptops in general. Lenovo really tried to make this a great modern machine, and while it has some flaws, it succeeded for the most part.
Best 15-inch 4G laptop: Dell Latitude 7530  Most laptops that come with 4G cellular connectivity tend to have smaller screens, but for some of us, that’s just a bit too small. I personally prefer 15-inch displays most of the time, and if you agree, then the Dell Latitude 7530 might be the option for you. There are a lot of limitations if you want to get 4G support, but this is still a solid laptop. Performance-wise, the Latitude 7520 is everything you’d expect from a business laptop. It comes with Intel’s 12th-generation processors, and while you can choose between P-series and U15-series models, only the U series lets you get 4G LTE support. That means you can go up to an Intel Core i7-1265U, with 10 cores, 12 threads, and boost speeds up to 4.8GHz. Both models should be fast enough for most kinds of work-related tasks, but the P-series will deliver a bit more performance, while the U15 series is better for battery life. It also includes Intel Iris Xe graphics. In addition to the powerful processors, you can get the Latitude 7530 with up to 32GB of RAM, plus 1TB of storage. The Dell Latitude 7530 has a 15.6-inch display, and it comes in a few configurations, but there’s only one that allows you to get 4G LTE. If you want to have cellular connectivity, you’re stuck with a Full HD (1920 x 1080) panel without touch support, which isn’t necessarily bad, but it could be better. This display also maxes out at 250 nits of brightness, so using it outdoors won’t be ideal, but it’s fine for indoor use. This is also a 16:9 display, which feels a bit outdated compared to other premium business laptops. Still, some may prefer it this way. One upside to the Dell Latitude 7530 is the webcam, which is actually a Full HD sensor, promising better image quality for meetings and video calls. In addition to the higher resolution, this camera also includes facial recognition support for Windows Hello, plus a privacy shutter if you’re worried about being spied on. You can also add a fingerprint reader if you prefer that method of logging in. In terms of the design, the Latitude 7530 is fairly standard, though the 4G-enabled models are made of carbon fiber, which is a bit more unique with its black chassis and the weave pattern on the lid. It’s 17.73mm thick and it weighs 3.39lbs, which isn’t heavy, but it’s also not one of the lightest laptops out there. It’s still fairly portable, though, so you can travel with it without much of an issue. Where it truly excels is the port selection. In true business laptop fashion, the Dell Latitude 7530 includes a wide selection of ports, including two Thunderbolt 4 ports, two USB Type-A ports, HDMI, a microSD card reader, a headphone jack, and an optional Smart Card reader. That covers all the wired connectivity needs you might have, and it’s a solid selection overall. There isn’t much to complain about here. Rounding out the connectivity, you get support for LTE connectivity thanks to an optional Qualcomm Snapdragon X20 modem. Despite using the same modem, some models support LTE Cat9 speeds, while others can go up to LTE Cat16, which can deliver up to 1Gbps download speeds and around 150Mbps upload speeds. LTE Cat16 is naturally more expensive, but it can make a significant difference in speed. While some aspects aren’t ideal, if you need a 4G laptop with a 15-inch display, the Dell Latitude 7530 is one of your best options.
Best business convertible: Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga  Yes, Lenovo makes an appearance yet again on this list because, after all, ThinkPads are some of the most well-known business laptops in the world. The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga is essentially a convertible variant of the ThinkPad X1 Carbon, with some design elements changed here and there. First off, it’s powered by 12th-generation Intel Core processors, with options up to an Intel Core i7-1280P with 14 cores, 20 threads, and boost speeds up to 4.8GHz. Again, that’s a very fast CPU, and it’s backed up by Intel iris Xe graphics to handle some light GPU workloads if you need to. The laptop can suffer a bit from thermal throttling, though you probably won’t notice it unless you’re straining the CPU pretty hard. Up to 32GB of RAM and a 2TB SSD round out the performance-related components, making for a very solid premium experience. Similar to the ThinkPad X1 Carbon, the X1 Yoga comes with a 14-inch display and a 16:10 aspect ratio, ideal for productivity in various tasks. The base model is once again a Full HD+ (1920 x 1200) panel, but since this is a convertible, touch and pen support is available across every configuration – in fact, a pen is built into the laptop itself so it’s always ready to use. You can add an anti-reflective and anti-smudge coating to the base configuration, or upgrade to the stunning Ultra HD+ (3840 x 2400) OLED panel if you want to get the best image quality possible (at the expense of battery life). Also in line with its clamshell sibling, the ThinkPad X1 Yoga comes with a 1080p webcam by default. From there, you can add Windows Hello facial recognition support, and even add Computer Vision if you want the laptop to lock itself when you walk away and wake up when you approach it. In terms of design, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga keeps the elements you know from the classic ThinkPad models, including the red TrackPoint and the buttons above the touchpad to use with it. Instead of black, though, it comes in Storm Grey, which is still a subdued color, but a bit different from what the ThinkPad lineup is known for. It’s also made entirely of aluminum, instead of using carbon fiber. This makes it a bit heavier, weighing 3.04lbs, but it’s still 14.95mm thin and very portable overall. Finally, we have the ports, and the setup is also similar to the X1 Carbon. That means you get two Thunderbolt 4 ports, two USB Type-A ports, HDMI, and a headphone jack. Of course, optional 4G LTE is available, with a Fibocom L860-GL-16 modem providing LTE Cat16 speeds, and there’s also 5G if you want to step it up to the latest network. Overall, as you’d probably expect, this is a very capable laptop, now with the added versatility of being a convertible. You can configure your own below.
Best 4G tablet: Surface Pro X  LTE support in a laptop is important for users who want to stay mobile, and if mobility is a priority for you, then the Surface Pro X is one of the best Windows devices you can buy. It’s one of the lightest and most portable devices on this list, and of course, it supports 4G LTE. Let’s start with performance, which is likely one of the potential downsides of the Surface Pro X. This tablet is powered by the Microsoft SQ1 or SQ2 processors, which only have minor differences in performance between them. These are eight-core ARM processors, and they’re a couple of years old by now. These processors are based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 1 and Gen 2, and the Surfae Pro X hasn’t been updated to use the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 yet. Still, this is a fairly powerful processor that can handle most day-to-day tasks just fine, and you can pair it with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, which is a solid combination for a thin and light tablet like this. Balancing out the performance, the display on the Surface Pro X is fantastic. This is a 13-inch panel, and it comes in the signature 3:2 aspect ratio all Surface devices have. This is a tall screen, which helps it feel bigger, and it’s great for productivity. On top of that, this is a very sharp screen, too, with a resolution of 2880 x 1920. Everything will look extremely sharp on this screen, and Surface devices always have great displays. Of course, being a tablet, you can also count on touch and pen support, though the pen is sold separately. Another highlight of the Surface Pro X is its camera setup, and there are actually two cameras here. On the front, there’s a 5MP camera with 1080p video, which makes it one of the best on any laptop. This camera also supports Windows Hello facial recognition by default, so you don’t have to worry about getting the right configuration. There’s a second camera on the back, and that one uses a 10MP sensor and supports 4K video. The positivity continues as we move on to the design. The Surface Pro X weighs a mere 1.7lbs and it measures just 7.3mm in thickness, making it one of the lightest and most portable Windows devices around. Of course, adding a keyboard to the device will increase its weight and thickness, but that doesn’t take away from how portable this machine is. It also looks sleek, being the origin of the design we now see in the Surface Pro 8, too. Ports are another potential downside of the Surface Pro X, however. The tablet includes two USB Type-C ports and a Surface Connect port, which you can use for docking and connecting external displays and other accessories. This is a somewhat limiting setup, but to be fair, it would have been nearly impossible to fit a USB Type-A or HDMI port on a device this thin. Still, you’re going to need adapters, and without Thunderbolt, your options are a bit more limited. For a couple of years, Microsoft only offered the Surface Pro X with LTE support included by default, but recently, the company introduced a cheaper Wi-Fi variant. The LTE variants start at $999.99, which is still one of the cheapest Windows devices you can buy with LTE. That LTE support is powered by the included Snapdragon X24 modem, and it provides download speeds up to 2Gbps and uploads up to 316Mbps, making this one of the fastest LTE modems in any device on this list. Being extremely portable and sleek, featuring a fantastic display and webcams, and also having a great LTE modem make the Surface Pro X one of the best 4G laptops you can buy today. However, keep in mind you need to buy the keyboard separately, which costs extra.
Best 4G laptop workstation: Dell Precision 3571  On the opposite side of the spectrum, the Dell Precision 3571 is a machine for those who need all the power they can get. This is a laptop that will handle just about anything you throw at it, and yes, it can stay connected on the go, even if you’re unlikely to travel that much with it. Starting with performance, the Dell Precision 3571 is in a whole different class compared to the other laptops on this list. It’s powered by Intel’s 12th-generation processor, but these come from the H series, with a 45W TDP. You can go up to an Intel Core i9-12900H, which gives you 14 acres, 20 threads, and boost speeds up to 5GHz for unrivalled performance compared to other laptops on this list. Additionally, you can get up to Nvidia RTX A2000 professional graphics for workloads that require GPU power. Rounding things out, you can configure it with up to 64GB of RAM and 4TB of storage via two SSD slots. The 15.6-inch display on the Dell Precision 3571 gives you a few configuration options. It starts with a HD (1366 x 768) at 220 nits of brightness, though that’s something we really can’t recommend. You can upgrade to a Full HD (1920 x 1080) panel with 250 nits of brightness, or choose to increase that to 400 nits, and/or add touch support. If you want the best possible experience, there’s also an option fo an Ultra HD (3840 x 2160) display with 400 nits of brightness, this one making for a truly great display experience. The base configuration of the Dell Precision 3571 comes with a below-average 720p camera, but thankfully, you’re not restricted to that. You can upgrade to a Full HD 1080p webcam, and that also includes Windows Hello facial recognition, which makes this a legitimately good setup. Dell’s configurator groups webcam options with the display category, so be sure to look closely to choose the Full HD camera with the panel you want. Of course, with all the power that’s packed into this laptop, you can’t expect it to be extremely light or thin. The Dell Precision 3571 is just over 24mm thick at its thickest point- easily the thickest of any laptop on this list – and its weight starts at 3.94lbs, though it will definitely go higher than that if you upgrade the specs significantly. Despite that, the DellPrecision 3571 looks fairly sleek and modern in its design, lining up well with Dell’s Latitude series. Just be aware you won’t be travelling (comfortably, at least) a whole lot with this laptop. The upside of a large laptop like this is that you get plenty of space for ports. On the left, you get two Thunderbolt 4 ports and an optional Smart Card reader while the right side houses an RJ-45 port, two USB Type-A ports, HDMI, a headphone jack, and a microSD card reader. That’s about everything you could want in a workstation, so you’ll be very well served here. A downside of this setup is having the two Thunderbolt ports on the same side, but that’s not a huge issue. Finally, we have 4G support rounding the connectivity options. HP offers the option for an Intel XMM 7360 modem, which promises LTE Cat9 speeds. That’s not the fastest option for 4G LTE, but you can opt for 5G support if you really want the fastest speeds. This is admittedly not the fastest workstation around, but we aimed for something that was still reasonably priced. You can buy it below, but if you want a workstation with 4G LTE and price isn’t a concern at all, then you may want to check out the HP ZBook Fury 16 G9.
Best budget 4G tablet: Surface Go 3  If you want an LTE-connected PC at a reasonable price or you want the most portable device you can find, the Surface Go 3 is probably what you want. Microsoft’s latest budget tablet gives you solid entry-level performance and it’s extremely portable – the lightest device on this list, in fact. Of course, you can’t really expect the same level of performance on this device compared to others on this list. You can choose between an Intel Pentium Gold 6500Y processor or an Intel Core i3-10100Y, and the latter is definitely the more powerful of the two, with two cores and four threads, capable of boosting up to 3.9GHz. The Pentium processor should also offer decent enough performance, but the problem is that this version only includes 4GB of RAM and 64GB of eMMC storage. If you opt for the Core i3, you also get 8GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD, so performance is much better across the board. Instead of focusing on performance, Microsoft focused more on the display experience, and even this affordable tablet comes with the typical 3:2 aspect ratio of other Surface devices. This is pretty much the only Windows device at this price to have a display like this, and as we’ve mentioned, that tall screen is great for productivity and getting work done. Plus, it comes in Full HD+ (1920 x 1280) resolution, which isn’t always a guarantee in devices at this price point, and it’s great for a 10.5-inch panel like this. And, of course, since it’s a tablet, you get support for touch and the Surface Pen. Another area where the Surface Go 3 shines is its cameras. Like the more expensive Surface devices, it includes a 5MP front-facing webcam with 1080p video, which is pretty much unheard of for a Windows device at this price point. On top of that, you get Windows Hello facial recognition – another rarity for a device this cheap. There’s also a second 8MP camera on the back, which also supports 1080p video. In terms of the design, as we said at the top, the Surface Go 3 is the lightest device on this list. It weighs just over 1.2lbs for the LTE model, and it’s 8.3mm thin, so it’s also very thin. Combined with the relatively small size, this makes the Surface Go 3 the easiest device to take anywhere – you might even fit it in a purse if it’s big enough. Even if you add the Surface Go Type Cover, this is still the most portable device on this list. The port selection on this device is very limited, though, which is somewhat typical of Surface devices. You get one USB Type-C port, a Surface Connect port, a headphone jack, and a microSD card reader. You can use a Surface Dock or USB-C hub to connect more peripherals, but out of the box, this setup isn’t the best. On the other hand, the 4G connectivity on this device is actually pretty good. It’s powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon X16 modem, which promises up to 600Mbps downloads and 150Mbps uploads, and that’s a fairly fast modem. Considering some more expensive devices have slower modems, that’s great news, and it makes this even better as an ultra-portable PC. The performance may not be everything you want in a laptop, but the Surface Go 3 is an extremely portable device that’s great for browsing the web. With a fast 4G modem, it’s also one of the best laptops you can buy, especially if you’re on a tight budget. However, the keyboard and Surface Pen are sold separately, which is an extra cost you may have to consider.
Best 4G Chromebook: Lenovo ThinkPad C14  Finally, because not all laptops are Windows laptops, we have the Lenovo ThinkPad C14, a premium Chromebook that’s aimed a bit more towards the mainstream market. This is a clamshell laptop with optional 4G support, and it offers the best bang for your buck right now. There’s only one configuration available at writing time, but it’s really the best you can get right now. Performace-wise, the Lenovo ThinkPad C14 is powered by a 12th-generation Intel Core i5-1245U with vPro support. This is a 10-core, 12-thread processor that can boost up to 4.4GHz, and it’s going to give you plenty of performance, especially with a lightweight operating system like Chrome OS. It even includes Intel Iris Xe graphics, too. Aside from that, you get 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD for storage, which is also more than enough to run Chrome OS smoothly. The display on the ThinkPad C14 is also solid, being a 14-inch panel with a typical 16:9 aspect ratio and Full HD resolution. It only has 250 nits of brightness, which means it won’t be the best for outdoor visibility, but it gets the job done well enough. There will be a model with a brighter 300-nit screen and touch support, but it’s not available just yet. Above the display is the webcam, and it’s a 1080p camera like many of the laptops we’ve looked at so far. 1080p webcams have thankfully become the standard in 2022, and it’s good to see this model doesn’t cut corners there. Because Chrome OS doesn’t support IR-based facial recognition, the ThinkPad C14 only has a fingerprint reader for biometric authentication. In terms of the design, the ThinkPad C14 is almost everything you’d expect from a ThinkPad, with a dark chassis with red accents, including a red TrackPoint and duplicate mouse buttons above the touchpad. The only big difference is that it’s not exactly black, and instead it comes in Abyss Blue, which we’d say is actually welcome and makes it a bit more unique compared to other ThinkPads. It’s not a very thin laptop, measuring 19.9mm, and it weighs 3.44lbs, so it’s not the lightest model around, either. Still, it’s not an incredibly heavy device or anything. As for ports, the ThinkPad C14 comes with two USB Type-C ports – one supporting Thunderbolt 4 – plus two USB Type-A ports, HDMI, a headphone jack, and a microSD card reader. That’s a very complete setup, and basically what you’d expect from a business laptop. Finally, of course, we have 4G support, which is enabled by the Fibocom L850-GL modem with Cat9 speeds. This means you’ll get up to 450Mbps downloads and 50Mbps uploads, and while this is certainly usable, it would be nice to see a faster modem available here. All in all, this is objectively one of the best Chromebooks you can buy with 4G support, and it comes with very competitive pricing for its specs. If you want something that’s truly cheap, you may also want to consider the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook Go, but it’s important to note performance won’t be nearly on the same level.
If you value 4G connectivity, all of these laptops are fantastic choices, and they accommodate different budgets. If you want potentially the best business laptop out there, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon is pobly it, though the HP Elite Dragonfl G3 is a fantastic premium option, too. If you want something more affordable or you simply don’t care for business-specific devices, then the Surface Pro X or Surface Go 3 are also great options.
