damn...this was a great tool...it helped me get my touch pro....and I was hoping on a tp2 one day...but oh well...I might leave Sprint soon if I get this Verizon job, and get me a touch pro 2 with verizon...I like the all black look better anyway....lol, sprint does not even explain on why the decommissioned the self replacement tool...they just pretty much say its gone as of 12/11/2009 and all you got left is in the store resolution for consumer accounts.

yea i did think it was hady how they took it off without explanation but can you blame them? they read all these forums and see how people abused the tool on a constant basis. there are threads here, ppcgeeks, xda-developers, hofo, etc that all have this information visible on the forums so they look.... they see all the money that they are losing from people scamming them through this tool. i feel for them to turn around the company and become profitable again that they had to do something like this so they arent throwing much needed money down the drain. i wish they would have sent an email or letter out with our bills that this change was going down, if they did this i wouldnt have a problem seeing this happen, but to sound it in a way that it has been planned and than not trell anyone... seems like the big dogs got sick of losingmoney and put an end to it immediately.

+1 i see why they did.. agree on the info . They could of always done what they claimed to do ... thats check what comes back. Charge their ass if nothing is actually wrong with returned phone...Was in the return agreement. they just really never enforced it.

very true but in a sense if they had to check every phone and compare the problem with what the person was saying was wrong they would be paying out the ass for employees to do so.... they would have to activate them to make sure it doesnt drop calls or no reception, wait for them to boot up, flop batteries if dead or even came back with it etc.. cheaper to do it the way that they were in the long run, im sure there was some send backs and bills but prolly not many.. owell its never long before another scam hits sprint and people go buckwild with it for a year or so before they realize that they are losing money and take it down... i love how stupid sprint can be at times ahhaa

Re: Sprints Sprint SelfService Phone Replacement tool gone

I used to work for a b to b that sold phones & other high tech devices. The vast majority of the higher-end gadgets we got back in returns actually had nothing wrong with them, but since we had an automated return service, perfectly functional devices showed up for refunds. We chalked it up to the customers not knowing how to operate them... Phones weren't a big issue, but Archos digital video players & things like that were.

Having that automated return service was just asking all the stupid people to send their phones in for no reason. When I took my TP in with GPS troubles to the corporate store, the tech made sure it wasn't simply case of a stupid owner not knowing how to operate his own phone. Once that was settled, they gave me a new phone... as it should be.

I actually think the "scamming" part wasn't an issue at all.

well i know the scamming was, they have admitted many times to stopping by the major sites like xda, ppcgeeks, and hofo... these threads are alwasy being bumped on those sites and they see this... not only has sprint admitted this but others have too... we get this on spj as well, we have a sprint customer service headquarters that uses are forum to ask questions that customer ask to them... always going on

Re: Sprints Sprint SelfService Phone Replacement tool gone

Yeah, I should've phrased that differently. I don't doubt that the scamming is part of the decision, but I think the main reason is what I stated earlier.

As a side note, when we got those Archos DV players in, we liked to poke around & see what had been loaded onto them. Virtually none of them had any mainstream content at all... It was almost always either porn or that Japanimation stuff. LOL... apparently, the early adopters who bought those things had certain tastes!
