Support for the Samsung Galaxy S9 officially comes to an end

Remember the good old days when smartphones only came with one camera? The Samsung Galaxy S9 was one of those devices that lived in that era, and looking back it’s kind of funny to think how we got along back then with only one camera when phones these days are packing 3-4.Anyway, it appears to be the end of an era because Samsung has officially stopped supporting the device. This honestly shouldn’t really come as a surprise given that the Galaxy S9 was launched in 2018, meaning that the company has actually been supporting it for about 4 years already, which is pretty decent by Android standards.

Now according to Samsung’s website, the oldest Galaxy S smartphone that the company is still supporting would be the Galaxy S10 series, but only the Galaxy S10 5G and the Galaxy S10 Lite are getting monthly updates. Other models in the lineup like the Galaxy S10, S10+ and S10e have been pushed into the quarterly security updates category, meaning that instead of monthly updates, they will only receive quarterly ones.

Keep in mind that these older devices were launched before Samsung made changes to its update policy. The company announced earlier this year that devices starting with the Galaxy S21 series will now be eligible for four years of major OS updates and five years of security updates.
