Job listing hints that Netflix is doubling down on its mobile gaming efforts

Last year, Netflix announced that they would be getting into mobile gaming and would offer games access to game titles for free as part of their subscription. It was an interesting idea, but more recently, a report has suggested that out of all of Netflix’s subscribers, only 1% were actually engaging with the company’s mobile titles. It would suggest that Netflix’s foray into mobile gaming was a failure and that the company should reconsider that strategy, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. Spotted by Eurogamer, a job listing on Netflix’s website has revealed that the company seems to be doubling down on their mobile gaming efforts.

According to the job description:
“Bring your passion for games and joy of enabling others as we build our games experience. We are rapidly expanding new gaming offerings, so we are seeking a rendering engineer who is excited to help us lead the continued building and scaling of our efforts for our international audience.”

We suppose to be fair, Netflix has only just dipped their toes into the waters and just like most of Netflix’s shows, all they really need is a couple of hit titles to justify their efforts. So far the company has released a handful of titles, some of which are based on Netflix’s IPs like Stranger Things. It will be interesting to see if they will be able to come up with something that will get more subscribers to play, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
