Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link is Headed to Android

Square Enix’s Kingdom Hearts series has certainly established itself as one of the biggest video game franchises in history, and its reach has spanned several gaming consoles since its humble beginnings on the Sony Playstation 2. The charm of seeing Square Enix RPG characters fighting alongside popular Disney heroes never wears off, and a recent announcement from Disney and Square Enix aims to bring this brilliantly-executed mash-up to Android phones soon.

In celebration of the franchise’s 20th Anniversary, Square Enix announced that two new titles will be in development, namely Kingdom Hearts 4, a mainline title and sequel to Kingdom Hearts 3 from 2019, and Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, a mobile game which will make its way to Android and iOS devices. A closed beta test was announced for 2022, although no official release date was given during the announcement.

According to the press release, “Fans can also look forward to KINGDOM HEARTS Missing-Link, an all-new game for iOS and Android devices, which allows players to embark on adventures from the realm of Scala ad Caelum into the real world. Players will be able to engage in exhilarating battles against the Heartless and discover a new, original story.”

Based on early gameplay footage, the game will be set to a portrait display orientation, which is uncommon for Kingdom Hearts titles.

Aside from Kingdom Hearts, several other Square Enix games are available on the Google Play Store, like the Final Fantasy games, the Mana game franchise, the Last Remnant Remastered, and several others. While a lot of these titles were ported over from older console platforms, others like Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition were developed specifically for mobile.

This isn’t the first time that Kingdom Hearts game made its way onto mobile devices. Over the years, Square Enix also released Kingdom Hearts Coded, Kingdom Hearts Mobile (a Japan exclusive) and Kingdom Hearts Unchained X from 2016.
