Leak Suggests that Sony’s Xperia 1 IV Might be Ridiculously Expensive

Sony’s Xperia smartphones aren’t exactly known for being affordable, with phone prices rivaling that of Apple’s expensive iPhone Pro models. However, new leaks suggest that the next Xperia flagship device might come with an even heftier price tag.

According to an online post referenced by an article on Notebook Check, it is predicted that Sony will launch two different variants of its upcoming flagship phone (currently referred to as the Xperia 1 IV). The handset will come in 256 and 512GB storage versions once it launches. When converted, the estimated prices come at a whopping $1,415 for the 256GB model, and $1,572 for the 512GB variant. Some are skeptical of the alleged prices, however, although it’s worth mentioning that the phones will nevertheless come with higher prices due to camera improvements in the hardware.

It’s also predicted that the Xperia 1 IV will launch in China first, although no specific global release dates were mentioned in the original post. By comparison though, the Xperia 1 III was launched in August of 2021.

A couple of months ago, leaked images of the Xperia 1 IV circulated around the internet, showing off the design of the phone. Sony is known for keeping “unique” design elements even in its latest smartphones, such as keeping front-facing cameras embedded in slim bezels instead of notches or a hole punch display. It’s also expected that the phone might come equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, a chipset found in several other flagship Android devices.

Currently, Sony sells the Xperia 1 III and Xperia Pro-I, which serve as the company’s main flagship devices. The Xperia Pro-I in particular is noteworthy as it features specialized camera hardware and software. Further down the price chain, the Xperia 5 III and Xperia 10 III take up the mid-range spots in Sony’s smartphone line-up. Apart from these leaks, there’s still no word on Sony’s part regarding the Xperia 1 IV, so Sony fans will have to do a bit more waiting.
