5 best video doorbells for 2022

Back in the day, if someone knocked on your door or rang your doorbell when you were not home, you’d never know that someone was ever there unless they left a message. This means that things like packages, letters, and so on would either be undelivered or left on your doorstep, which can be dangerous especially with porch pirates running around.Thankfully, technology has advanced to the point where video doorbells have become increasingly common and it’s not that expensive to furnish your home with one.

One of the benefits is that you’ll be able to see and communicate with whoever’s at your door even when you’re not home. You can get alerts, save recordings, and more in case something happens. So if you’re keen on making your home security smarter, then check out some of these recommendations below.

[ame][URL="https://www.amazon.com/Ring-Video-Doorbell-Pro-Chime/dp/B08KHZ1VMN?tag=tylerlee-20"][/ame]It’s safe to say that it’s largely thanks to Ring that the video doorbell craze took off. The company has since been acquired by Amazon, but they are still putting out products, like the Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 with the Ring Chime Pro bundled with it.

The doorbell’s built-in camera is capable of recording 1536p HD head to toe footage, meaning that you will be able to clearly see who’s at your door. There is support for two-way communication, meaning that you can speak to whoever’s outside and they can speak back to you.

There are built-in motion detectors so that you can always be alerted when someone is walking up to your door, plus if you’re willing to subscribe to Ring’s Protect Plan, you can record and store and share all your videos.

[ame][URL="https://www.amazon.com/Arlo-Essential-Wired-Video-Doorbell/dp/B07YMV9VMT/?tag=tylerlee-20"][/ame]If you’re not necessarily a fan of Amazon collecting your data via its Ring products, then Arlo could be another company worth taking a look at for your video doorbell needs, like with the Arlo Essential Wired Video Doorbell. The doorbell’s camera will support 180-degree views with HD and HDR footage, giving you a clear and wider look through the camera.

There are also built-in two way communication features so you can speak to whoever’s at the door, or alternatively, you can also pre-record messages in case you don’t have time to deal with it. Arlo has also created a feature called Arlo Foresight which basically starts recording video prior to motion-triggered video recording so that you have better context of what’s going on.

There is also night vision support so that even when it’s night time, you should still be able to see what’s going on.

[ame][URL="https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07R3WY95C/?tag=tylerlee-20"][/ame]A lot of video doorbells have motion detection built into them. It’s a great feature to use, but the problem is that sometimes these can be false alarms. This is something eufy is trying to address by using AI where its cameras can detect body shapes and face patterns, only alerting users when a human is at the door as opposed to a stray animal.

The camera can also record video at 2560 x 1920 resolution with HDR and with eufy’s Distortion Correction feature, it helps make the video cleaner and easier to look at. The company also boasts that its products are a one-off purchase and users will not need to pay extra for subscriptions.

[ame][URL="https://www.amazon.com/Video-Doorbell-Chime-Included-1080p/dp/B08WQ15B37/?tag=tylerlee-20"][/ame]As doorbells are usually placed on the outside of a home, obviously it would need to be able to withstand the elements, and the Wyze Video Doorbell has such features with an IP65 rating, making it resistant to water and dust, perfect for outdoors usage.

According to Wyze, they have designed the doorbell to light up brightly when motion has been detected. The idea is similar to spotlights where suddenly lighting up brightly could deter would-be intruders, plus the doorbell can also send alerts to the user, allowing them to quickly pull up a live feed to see what’s going on.

The built-in camera will also capture footage in the 3:4 aspect ratio, making your videos taller than wider so you can see the full body of the person at the door, plus it has the added benefit of keeping an eye on your packages placed under the doorbell.

The problem with a lot of these video doorbells is that they tend to be wired setups. This means that if you don’t know what you’re doing, you’ll need to hire an electrician to come and install it for you which costs more money, that’s why the Nest Doorbell is one of the best options if you’re looking for a hassle-free installation.

In addition to being easy to install, the Nest Doorbell also comes with object detection, which shouldn’t be surprising given that it’s made by Google. This means that the doorbell’s camera will be smart enough to differentiate between people, packages, vehicles, animals, and more, plus with Nest Aware, users can be alerted when someone they know is at their door.

As is the norm with these video doorbells, there is built-in two way communication so that users can see who’s at their door and speak to them, whether it be through their smartphone or a smart display.
