Future Samsung phone repairs could be cheaper and more environmentally-friendly

Trying to fix a broken Samsung phone can be an expensive affair. To be fair, going through official repair channels can be quite expensive regardless of brand, but there is some good news on that front.A report from Business Korea has suggested that Samsung is working on a new repair program that could reduce the cost of repairing a phone by a significant amount. This will be done through the use of recycled parts, where Samsung would essentially take components that are used and refurbish them to ensure they’re on par with new components.

This means that in the future, if you break your Samsung phone screen, you could opt to get a recycled screen as a replacement at half the cost. For those who aren’t too fussed about whether a component is right-off-the-factory-floor-brand-new, this could be a great way to save money when the time comes.

Plus it does have the added benefit of being better for the environment since less components would need to be produced in order to meet repair demands. The report claims that Samsung is expected to launch this new initiative before the end of the first half of 2022, so maybe we’ll have more details in the coming months.

In the meantime, Samsung also recently announced a partnership with iFixit where they will supply genuine components to users who might want to DIY their own repairs or third-party repair shops who want to use official parts in their repairs.
