Samsung’s Smart Monitors Sell One Million Units Worldwide

Samsung’s series of smart monitors have made headlines recently, especially with the release of the company’s new M8 Monitor which comes with a lot of great hardware features built-in. It seems that the devices will be staying in the spotlight for a bit longer, given their popularity worldwide.

A press release from the South Korean tech giant states that the accumulated sales of their Smart Monitor series has finally surpassed one million units worldwide, and this includes the M5, M7, and the newest M8 monitors. In particular, pre-orders for the M8 began in March this year, and the company states that these “exceeded the company’s expectations.” Samsung included pre-order sales of the M8 in its total sales count for Q1, and says that this increased by 40% compared to the same period in 2021.

Hyesung Ha, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics states that “as consumers are increasingly working, learning and keeping entertained at home, the Smart Monitor redefines the traditional role of a monitor and delivers a variety of features to enhance any lifestyle… We are delighted to reach this one million unit milestone and anticipate the demand we are seeing to continue as consumers around the world want to live smarter, every day.”

The company’s latest M8 monitor comes with an array of impressive hardware features, such as a 32-inch 4K display and a detachable video camera, and also lets users switch to TV mode. The M8 comes with Samsung’s Smart Hub software feature, and is compatible with video streaming services like Netflix, YouTube, and Samsung TV Plus. It was first unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) earlier this year.

Unlike competing Android TV and monitor products, Samsung’s Smart Monitor series run on Tizen, which is the same operating system that powers the company’s smart TVs. Samsung previously used Tizen for some of its low-end smartphones, and even a few wearable devices.
