Google Store update hints at the launch of the long-awaited Pixel Watch



For years it has been rumored that Google is working on a smartwatch of their own. After all, the company already makes its own phones, its own tablets, its own Chromebooks, its own smart home speakers and devices, so a Google-made smartwatch doesn’t seem entirely out of the question.It has also been rumored that this smartwatch could debut at I/O next month, and now it seems that some evidence has surfaced to suggest that will indeed be happening. As spotted by 9to5Google, it seems that a recent redesign to the Google Store has revealed the existence of a new ‘Watches” navigation tab at the top of the page.

Image credit – 9to5GoogleAs noted by the publication, prior to this the navigation bar at the top had “ Pixel, Nest, Stadia, Fitbit, and Pixelbook, Subscriptions, and Special Offers”, but now it reads, “Phones, Watches, Smart Home, Gaming, Laptops, Subscriptions, and Offers”. It is entirely possible that now that Google owns Fitbit, the Watches section could simply be referring to Fitbit devices.

But at the same time, with all the evidence starting to pile up at the existence of a Pixel Watch, maybe Google is laying the groundwork to have a dedicated section on their store where all their wearables, including their Fitbit devices, will be listed. In any case, we expect more details will be revealed at I/O so check back with us in May for updates.
