Google Messages bug could be causing phones to overheat

If you’ve recently started to notice that your Android phone is getting hotter than normal and if your battery is draining faster than usual, Google Messages could be to blame. According to a post on Reddit by u/CozyMicrobe, it was reported that a bug in Google Messages could be the reason behind the overheating and excessive battery drain. It was noticed that this was because the camera feature in the app is running in the background whenever the app is opened, meaning that even if users had no intention of using the camera functionality in Google Messages, the app would think that they do and launch it in the background.

The prolonged operation of the camera app in the background then causes the phone to get hot and lose battery quickly. The user also claims that by checking the battery usage section, they discovered that the messages app was running 12 out of the last 24 hours, which is pretty crazy if you think about it.

We’re not sure if Google is working on a bug fix for this issue, but there is a workaround to this problem. If you don’t really use the camera function in Google Messages, all you need to do is revoke the camera permissions of the app, which then stops the camera from running when the app is active.

It is only a temporary solution until Google issues a fix, but it seems to be the only one we’ve got at the moment.
