Nvidia GeForce Now app is now native on Apple M1
Nvidia GeForce Now app is now native on Apple M1
GeForce Now is Nvidia’s game streaming platform, built to play Windows-based PC games on the cloud across desktop and mobile platforms. Nvidia just released a new update for the GeForce Now service, which includes an M1-native Mac app. GeForce Now has been available in web browsers for a few months now (many of which are M1-native), similar to Google Stadia or Amazon Luna, but the native GeForce Now application has always been the best way to use the service. Nvidia said on Thursday, “the newest update to the cloud enables the GeForce NOW macOS app to natively support the Apple M1 chip. This update provides lower power consumption, faster app startup times and an overall elevated GeForce NOW experience on M1-based MacBooks, iMacs and Mac Minis.” Besides the Mac-specific changes, the GeForce Now app has a new Genre row at the bottom of the Games menu, which might help you sort through your game collection. There’s also an improved Streaming Statistics Overlay that includes FPS data on the server side ? not just what you get on your machine. That might be helpful for figuring out if your poor game performance is due to your network connection or the actual game. Nvidia has also added 14 more games to the service, including Dune: Spice Wars, Holomento, Galactic Civilizations II: Ultimate Edition, SOL CRESTA, and Romans: Age of Caesar. The most notable addition is probably Lost Ark, the online action role-playing game published by Amazon Games back in 2019. GeForce Now was in the news earlier this year for adding Fortnite as a supported title, and since GeForce Now is accessible on iOS devices through Safari, the new support technically brought Fortnite back to iPhones and iPads. The game was initially pulled from the App Store after Epic Games circumvented Apple’s revenue cut for in-app purchases, and the native version won’t come back anytime soon (if ever). Google could finally give Wear OS an annual upgrade cycle with Wear OS 5 ba
Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 Credit: Kaitlyn Cimino / Android Authority
If you are looking for a great smartwatch to complement your Android smartphone, Wear OS smartwatches are your best bet. The latest version of Wear OS is Wear OS 4 on watches like the Galaxy Watch 6 and the Pixel Watch 2. Google and Samsung are at work on the next few versions of Wear OS based on Android 14 and 15, indicating that Wear OS could finally get an annual upgrade cycle. 9to5Google reports that Samsung is actively working to support a ?Wear OS 5? build based on Android 14 for the Exynos 5535 chip of the next Galaxy Watch 7. Mishaal Rahman then chipped in to note that he independently spotted mentions of Wear OS 6 based on Android 15. Reading these together, it appears that Google is working on Wear OS 5, based on Android 14, and Wear OS 6, based on Android 15. Wear OS 4 was launched with Android 13 on the Galaxy Watch 6, but Wear OS releases before this skipped Android versions. Wear OS 3 was launched with Android 11 on the Galaxy Watch 4, while Wear OS 2 was based on Android 9. No further details about Wear OS 5 and 6 are available at this stage. But the more frequent platform update schedule is exciting news. It will help instill confidence in the platform as it gets regular updates across supported smartwatches. This, in turn, will help prop Wear OS better as a rival to Apple?s watchOS releases on the Apple Watch, which gets updated practically every time there is a stable iOS update. With better OEM confidence in the platform, we can hope more manufacturers adopt Wear OS, which will then foster a more competitive landscape for smartwatches just like it does on smartphones. Once there is plenty of sustained user interest, app developers will also have a better reason to keep their apps supported and updated. More... |
