Sharp?s latest smartphone comes with a whopping 240Hz display

These days a lot of smartphones are packing displays that push it beyond the standard 60Hz refresh rate. The highest we’ve seen so far is a 144Hz refresh rate, but it looks like Sharp has taken the cake with its latest smartphone, the Sharp Aquos R7 which comes with a 240Hz display. The R7 is the successor to the R6 which also came with a 240Hz refresh rate, but the R7 will obviously be packing newer and more impressive hardware. We’re talking about a 6.6-inch Pro IGZO OLED display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset under the hood, 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

Save for the display, it all seems kind of vanilla and what you might expect from a flagship, but here’s where it gets interesting. The cameras in the R7 were developed in partnership with Leica and features a 47MP 1-inch sensor, which is bigger than what you might find in most smartphones.

According to Sharp, the new sensor allows for 1.8 times more light than its predecessor, meaning that photos will be taken faster and it should also be more effective in low-light situations. It also sports Leica’s Summicron lens and can capture 8K video. If you’re excited for this phone, we have some bad news because like pretty much all of Sharp’s phones, it will only be available in Japan and we doubt that the company has plans to make it available worldwide.
