WhatsApp working on security feature that will make it more resilient against hackers

WhatsApp, like many online services these days, has support for two-factor authentication. This is designed to add an additional layer of security to prevent people from potentially accessing your account, but what if someone managed to intercept your 2FA, or what if you never enabled the feature at all? This would allow the hacker/scammer to hijack and take over your account, but WhatsApp is working to prevent that from happening. This is according to a report from WABetaInfo in which they discovered that WhatsApp is working on a feature that would require users to actively acknowledge that they want to move their WhatsApp account to another phone.

Image credit – WABetaInfoIt will show users the time that the migration request was put in and who requested it. This means that if someone tries to migrate your account, you will be notified and will need to actively say yes or no to complete the process. It is admittedly a bit scary to see such a prompt, but it’s better than users suddenly finding that they are unable to access their accounts and chats anymore.

That being said, there is no mention of when this feature is expected to be rolled out for users publicly, but it’s good to know that WhatsApp is working on new security features to better protect our accounts.
