  • Today LG announced its new 42-inch LG OLED Flex TV.
  • The LG OLED Flex is the company?s first bendable OLED TV screen.
  • The display can switch from being completely flat to curved (900R).

Curved displays work great as gaming monitors because you?re usually sitting up close, allowing the screen to wrap around you, which creates a more immersive experience. However, they don?t work quite as well as just normal TVs when you?re usually sitting farther back. Normally, you?ll want a flat screen if you?re going to watch a show or movie. Aiming to give buyers a great gaming and TV viewing experience, LG has created a TV that wants to give you the best of both worlds with its newly announced LG OLED Flex (model LX3).

The LG OLED Flex may look like any typical 42-inch display, but there?s one unique feature you won?t find in other TVs currently on the market ? an automatic bending function. Users can quickly go from flat to curved ? up to 900R ? using a dedicated button found on the TV?s remote. In addition to these two presets, users have the option to manually adjust the curvature of the screen in 5% increments over 20 different levels.

At first glance, the LG OLED Flex looks more like a monitor than a TV. Part of that is thanks to the device?s stand that allows the screen to be tilted up to 10% towards you or up to 5% away from you. Also similar to a monitor, the height of the stand can be adjusted ? up or down ? by 140 millimeters.

Based on the marketing, it looks like LG is really leaning into the gaming aspects of this device. The TV will come with a number of gaming-friendly features like Dolby Vision, a 4K resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, HDMI 2.1 support, variable refresh rate (VRR) support, and an auto low latency mode. It will also support Nvidia?s G-Sync and AMD?s FreeSync to reduce stuttering and tearing.

As for the price and release date, there?s no word from LG at the moment. However, the TV will make an appearance at this year?s IFA in the LG booth. Stay tuned to Android Authority for a closer look at this device and updates from IFA 2022.
