Rumored Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 takes center stage in new leak

We recently reported that Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus might be coming soon, with a summer release speculated to be in the works. Naturally, Qualcomm isn’t stopping at one new chipset – rumors pointing to an upcoming mid-tier chipset have emerged, which might rival the likes of MediaTek’s own Dimensity 8100.

According to a source referenced by Notebook Check, Qualcomm’s upcoming mid-range chip – referred to as the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 – will feature ARM’s V9 architecture, but will drop the Cortex X2 Core. Additionally, it is predicted that the 7 Gen 1 will feature a 4+4 configuration, made up of four Cortex A710 cores at 2.36 GHz speeds, and four Cortex A510 cores with 1.8GHz clock speeds.

The leaks follow recent rumors and speculations regarding Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus, which will serve as its new flagship chipset once it launches. Currently, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is the company’s official flagship processor, although word has gotten around that several smartphone brands have the 8 Gen 1 Plus in their hands for testing purposes. Sources have mentioned that a handset featuring the new premium chipset might launch in either June or July.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon SoCs are seen on smartphones from different manufacturers and brands. The chipsets are numbered according to their price and performance tier – the 8-series chips are used for flagships, while the 7 and 6-series SoCs are mostly found in mid-range and budget smartphones.

Several flagship smartphones including the Samsung Galaxy S22 series, the OnePlus 10 Pro, and the Xiaomi 12 are currently powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 gen 1 chipset. While the company’s 7-series SoCs are mostly used in mid-range devices, they have been occasionally found in other flagship handsets like the Google Pixel 5 from 2020.

As of this time, there’s no official word on when the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 is scheduled to launch, so we’ll have to wait and see for any official announcements from Qualcomm.
