Bad news, the Pixel 7 might not be getting new camera hardware

There are many things to look forward to with the Google Pixel 7 this year, in particular the Tensor chipset where we are curious and excited to see what kind of upgrades Google could bring to the table. Unfortunately, as far as the cameras are concerned, it seems that Google won’t be doing anything with it.This is according to a tweet by leakster Yogesh Brar who claims that the Pixel 7 is expected to continue using the same camera hardware as its predecessors, the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. For context, the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro both feature the use of a main 5MP f/1.9 25mm camera, along with a 12MP f/2.2 17mm camera, with the Pro featuring an additional 48MP f/3.5 104mm telephoto camera.
We will most likely see the same optics on the Pixel 7/ 7 Pro that Pixel 6/ 6 Pro had.

Sensors might get see some optimization, rest of the magic will be done by software

This means that assuming Brar is right, the Pixel 7 phones could end up sporting the same hardware. The leakster claims that Google will most likely make some optimization improvements and that any changes to the camera will be mostly done on the software side of things.

We can’t really say we’re too disappointed, though. Google has proven themselves to be very adept when it comes to camera software. A good example would be Night Sight which saw many other manufacturers copy the feature, plus the company also successfully achieved bokeh while using a single lens while other companies had to rely on multiple cameras to get the same effect.

This means that while there might not be any hardware changes, as long as the software is good, that should be good enough (we hope).
