Samsung Galaxy S23 series could see a boost in battery capacity thanks to EV battery technology

One of the things we love about technology is that sometimes tech from one product category can be repurposed in another product category. This is something that Samsung is apparently exploring as the reports are claiming that for the Galaxy S23 series, the company could actually borrow battery tech from EVs.This is according to a tweet by @TheGalox_ who claims that for the Galaxy S23 series, Samsung could be looking to redesign the battery used in the phones. Instead of the current “jelly roll” method, Samsung could borrow EV battery stack and created batteries using the stacking method.
Diamond will Introduce a new process method for the batteries, which increases the density of the battery.

Preparations for mass production lines have already begun. Testing is also underway.

Samsung is no stranger when it comes to EVs as the Samsung SDI division of the company actually makes batteries used in electric vehicles. So what’s happening here is Samsung will be taking what they’ve learnt and applying it to smartphones. The end result is said to provide a bigger boost to the overall battery capacities of the phones.

For example, the base Galaxy S22 model features a 3,700mAh battery, but by utilizing this stacked battery design, Samsung could bump the battery to 4,500mAh. The larger Galaxy S23 phones will also benefit from this, where the Galaxy S23+ could jump to 5,000mAh, while the Galaxy S23 Ultra will feature a whopping 5,500mAh battery.

Of course, it remains to be seen if the rumors are true, but it might be something to look forward to, especially if you aren’t a fan of the current battery sizes offered in Samsung’s latest flagship phones.
