Survey says Pixel 6 isn?t selling well even with Google giving high kickbacks

  • Google’s Pixel 6 series is reportedly not doing so well at US carriers.
  • The company has resorted to offering lucrative kickbacks to salespeople to sell the flagships.
  • Numerous bugs and performance issues with the phones could be to blame.

The Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro are reportedly not selling very well. Research firm Wave7 conducted a survey of salespeople at US carriers (h/t PCMag), and it looks like Google’s latest flagships don’t have many buyers.

According to the survey, the Mountain View company has resorted to “spiffs” to increase sales numbers for the Pixel 6 line. The term is industry-speak for commissions or monetary kickbacks. Samsung does this too, but Google has cranked up the levels “very high,” Wave7 says.

However, even with the incentives, the report notes that there’s nearly zero interest in the Pixel 6 series apart from Verizon. One carrier rep told Wave7 that he had sold the new Pixels to people who came in wanting Galaxy S22 models just because the latter were out of stock.

Meanwhile, Google set an all-time quarterly sales record for its Pixel range in Q4, 2021. At the time, it said that the response to the Pixel 6 from customers and carrier partners had been very positive.

Interest in the series may have declined because of reports of a large number of bugs and performance issues in the phones. Issues like unreliable fingerprint unlocking, calls getting declined randomly, broken Wi-Fi connectivity, and many more have plagued the Google phones since their release last year.

All eyes are now on Google’s upcoming Pixel 6a, which is shaping up to be a mid-range device that could be pretty popular with those looking for a solid, more affordable phone.
