WhatsApp could be creating a subscription plan for businesses

For the longest time ever, WhatsApp was only available on smartphones, but then Meta brought it onto the desktop, but it still required users to have their phones tethered. Then WhatsApp later expanded on this by removing the tethering requirement and allowed up to four linked devices to a single account. Now according to WABetaInfo, it seems that WhatsApp could be toying with the idea of allowing as many as 10 linked devices to an account, but it seems that this feature will only be available to businesses and that it could also require a subscription in order for businesses to take full advantage of it.

Right now WhatsApp is free. The company did try charging for the app way, way back in the day, but ultimately made it free. To date, it is unclear how WhatsApp plans to monetize itself, but if this report is accurate, it seems that the company could be banking on businesses paying a subscription fee to generate additional revenue for themselves.

Not much else is known about this potential subscription service and if there might be more perks beyond allowing up to 10 linked devices to an account, so we’ll just have to wait and see. Keep in mind that this is only applicable to businesses and that for now and we can’t be sure if the company could eventually bring a subscription plan to regular users as well.
