5 Awesome Racing Games for Android

A lot of research and development has gone into making modern Android phones some of the best portable devices we can have in our pockets. Faster processors, more capable graphics performance, and larger batteries allow us to play games on our smartphones – action games, FPS titles, RPGs, you name it. There’s also a wide selection of racing games on the Google Play Store for you to choose from if you’re in the mood for some fast-paced driving action. With that in mind, we’ve come up with this quick little list of racing titles that are worth checking out. We’ve included both paid and free titles, although the latter does come with in-app purchases built into the game. Nevertheless, if you’re after a rip-roaring jolly good time, then be sure to take a look at these games.

GRID Autosport

First up on the list is GRID Autosport, a popular title which first launched on multiple consoles and computers. While there are some differences between the mobile and main console versions, it still remains a fun and challenging racing game.

One thing to note about GRID Autosport is that its gameplay leans more towards a “simulation” type of racing as opposed to arcade racers (like the Gran Turismo franchise), so you’ll get different in-game categories like street racing, touring, endurance, and more. It’s also a premium title, which means you pay once and can play offline, although the game does require a quick five-second internet check once in a while to verify the game’s paid license.

Asphalt 9: Legends

Up next on this list is Asphalt 9: Legends, the latest installment in Gameloft’s ever-popular Asphalt racing series. While GRID Autosport focuses on giving you a more “realistic” racing experience, Asphalt 9 takes the action to arcade territory.

Asphalt 9 is free to play, and includes more than a hundred customizable vehicles, 60 seasons, and hundreds of events to take part in. The game features terrific graphics as well, adding to its overall appeal.

Need for Speed No Limits

No “racing game list” wouldn’t be complete without an entry from the Need for Speed franchise. EA’s racing series has certainly been one of the longest mainstays in the video game industry, and it’s no surprise that it’s seen several installments for mobile devices.

In particular, Need for Speed No Limits combines good looking graphics and exciting arcade racing gameplay, resulting in a fun, casual, and easily accessible mobile racer. There are in-app purchases though, but if all you’re after is a quick speed fix, then NFS No Limits is something to check out.

Riptid GP: Renegade

An “older” title, Riptide GP: Renegade puts a different spin on the racing formula, putting you instead in a water-filled world where hydrojet racing is all the rage. The game still manages to look good after all these years, and the thrill that you get as you race through the many courses and challenges on a juiced-up jet ski never gets old.

There is a wide variety of in-game challenges, customizable vehicles, and easy-to-handle controls, which all make for one fun experience. The game can be had for a low price on the Google Play Store, and doesn’t take up a lot of space once installed on your phone.

Mario Kart Tour

If you’re after something a bit more on the “casual” side, then Mario Kart Tour might be perfect for you. The game takes the main graphical and gameplay tidbits from Nintendo’s popular Mario Kart franchise, shrinks them down and rearranges them a bit to fit on your phone.

While the controls are a bit different given that the game is tailored for touchscreens, the core elements like the character selection, in-game physics, and even the weapons are all present in-game. The game is also online, with leaderboards, challenges, and regular event updates for players to sink their teeth into.
