MediaTek?s new Genio 1200 chipset has been designed for AIoT devices in mind

IoT devices like smart security cameras, smart doorbells, smart lightbulbs, and so on have been around for a while, but that doesn’t mean the tech cannot be improved upon, which is why AIoT (Artificial Intelligence of Things) is starting to gain popularity by combining what we know and love about IoT devices together with artificial intelligence, making them smarter and more efficient than ever.In a bid to help capture the market for such devices in the future, MediaTek has announced its latest Genio chipsets, the Genio 1200 which the company claims has been designed specifically for AIoT devices in mind. This means that in the future, you might start seeing smart cameras, doorbells, and more that use MediaTek’s Genio chipsets to power it.

MediaTek’s Genio chipsets aren’t new and there are other models like the Genio 130, Genio 350, and Genio 500 that are used to power various devices and services, but the Genio 1200 has been created for AIoT applications with support for 4K displays, 4.8 TOPs AI acceleration, and also better power efficiency.

The Genio 1200 will feature an octa-core CPU, five GPU cores, dual AI processors, and is built on the 6nm process. It will also support a variety of interfaces ranging from PCI-Express to USB 3.1 and GbE MAC, and also supports MediaTek’s WiFi 6E and sub-6 5G modules. According to Jerry Yu, MediaTek Corporate Senior Vice President and General Manager of MediaTek’s Computing, Connectivity and Metaverse Business Group:
“Today MediaTek powers the most popular AIoT devices on the market. As the industry enters the next era of innovation, MediaTek’sGenio platform delivers flexibility, scalability and development support brands need to cater to the latest market demand. We look forward to seeing the new user experiences brands bring to life with the Genio 1200and its powerful AI capability, support for 4K displays and advanced imaging features.”

The company expects the Genio 1200 chipset to be available commercially in the second half of 2022, but it is unclear who will be taking advantage of it when it launches.
