Upcoming Chrome OS update will let users split their screens in more ways

There are many things to love about Google’s Chrome OS platform. It’s relatively lightweight compared to the likes of Apple’s macOS and Microsoft Windows. It can also run mobile apps like those from Android, and for the most part, Chromebooks are generally more affordable compared to Windows or Mac computers. If you’re hoping to eventually make the shift to using Chrome OS full time, then you might be interested to learn that according to a report from Chrome Story, there was a recent commit made to Chrome OS that hinted that more split screen options would be coming to Chrome OS in a future update.

According to the text, it suggests that users will be able to enable the option to snap windows by thirds for split view. This means that users will have the option to have two windows open side-by-side, with one window occupying 2/3 of the display, while the other window takes up the remainder 1/3.

This means that instead of a 50-50 split, users will have another option when it comes to viewing apps side-by-side. This is actually pretty useful because in some cases, there might be some windows that could benefit from occupying more screen real estate, like if you have something that’s text heavy, while another window might not need so much display space.

While users are free to resize their windows however they want, being able to snap apps into preset sizes will make things a lot faster and convenient. We’re not sure when this update is expected to roll out but it might be something that users can look forward to in the future.
