?Cancelled? Surface Duo Variant Appears on eBay



Microsoft’s Surface Duo foldable is certainly one of the more interesting and innovative approaches to Android that we’ve seen in the past few years, combining Google’s mobile operating system and Microsoft’s unorthodox hardware design into a device that aims to give you the best of both worlds. As such, images showing a “cancelled” mid-range version of the phone have recently popped up on the internet, by way of an eBay listing.According to information from the folks over at Windows Central, the device was codenamed “Cronos,” and was originally intended to serve as a mid-range variant of the Microsoft-branded foldable line (which has since spawned two devices). More specifically, the foldable was to be sold as a lower-cost version of the Surface Duo 2, the current-gen iteration of the Surface Duo line.

While the device has since been sold, a few details regarding its specs have been detailed, which include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset, a dual-camera array, as well as a polycarbonate build (as opposed to the glass panels on the Surface Duo 2). It is believed that Microsoft cancelled the device some time last year.

The first surface Duo was a return of sorts for Microsoft, which essentially left the phone game after the slow and eventual demise of its Windows Phone operating system and Lumia devices. While the Duo and Duo 2 are Microsoft-branded handsets, they run on Google’s Android operating system.
