Samsung?s cheaper Galaxy Watch 5 beats the Apple Watch Ultra in durability

The Apple Watch Ultra is Apple’s most expensive smartwatch in its current lineup, priced at around twice the price of the base Apple Watch model. Apple claims that it was designed with durability in mind and touted features like a sapphire glass display.Unfortunately, if durability is something you’re after, you might be better off buying the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 or the Garmin Fenix 7. This is according to a recent durability video by YouTube channel JerryRigEverything, where during a scratch test, the Apple Watch Ultra’s display started showing scratch marks at Moh’s levels of 6 and 7, similar to that of the cheaper Galaxy Watch 5.



The Garmin Fenix 7 on the other hand fared much better where marks only started to show at levels 8. According to JerryRigEverything, it does not mean that Apple lied about the use of sapphire. Instead, it was suggested that maybe there could be higher levels of impurities present or how the glass was polished that could have resulted in it scratching easier.

Apparently if real, pure sapphire was used, it should only scratch at Moh’s levels of 8 to 9, which is what the Fenix 7 did. Either way, at the end of the day it boils down to preference and needs, but if you’re looking for a really rugged smartwatch, perhaps you could consider other models instead.
