Verizon to Go for the Hero, Forgets Palm Pre

Puts “Out of Stock” notice on Touch Pro2

Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless has been rumored for quite some time now to plan on bringing to its subscribers some of the goodies that are already available with other operators, such as the Palm Pre or the Apple iPhone, but it seems that the company might have just shifted its focus to something else. The HTC Hero that will soon reach Sprint's airwaves is one thing that it might be interested in, as Palm Pre gets out of the carrier's plans.

The HTC Hero that will reach Sprint will also become available on the airwaves of another carrier in the country, Cellular South, and Verizon seems set to become the next in line. The Android-powered device would certainly be a great addition to Big Red’s offering and should play just nicely along with the also rumored Motorola Sholes, running under Android too. That is, of course, if everything pans out in the end.

While turning its eyes towards Hero, Verizon seems to have forgotten about its plans to launch the Palm Pre on its airwaves as soon as Sprint's exclusivity on the device will end. The Pre hasn't had the best performance on the market since launched on Sprint, that's for sure, yet it will appeal to Big Red's users if added to the offering. This is only a rumor at the moment, and things might prove to be the other way around, especially since Palm announced recently that it planned on launching its webOS devices via more carriers.

As for the phones that are already present on Verizon's lineup, one has gone out of stock recently, the newly introduced HTC Touch Pro2. The powerful Windows Mobile-based handset is priced at $199 with the carrier, the lowest price the phone has on the US market, and managed to appeal to users well enough to drive a shortage. For the time being, only the “Out of Stock” notice can be seen on the phone's page on Verizon's website, with no details on when the refill will come.
