Re: Palm: Survival of the Weakest?

i found this part of the article to be very interesting outlook that made a lot of sense to me.

The problem with Palm is that it does not have the presence in the marketplace to compete with Apple's iPhone and Google's Android. Between the two, you have today's dominant platform and its likely successor. It's a Catch-22: You need apps to sell phones, but you need to sell phones to interest developers.
With the iPhone and Android, developers have two obvious platforms for their applications. They do not need or seem to want a third, especially with Android just becoming established. During the time when Palm most needs developer support, Android will be grabbing the lion's share.

Re: Palm: Survival of the Weakest?

Wow... kinda' sad, actually.

Perhaps Palm needs to throw some incentive$ toward$ $ome developer$ to get them to write apps for the OS. Afterall, as we've see in recent posts here at SPJ, 10K stupid apps can be quickly eclipsed by a handful of excellent ones (or, in the case of Android's Google Maps Nav, one app.)

very good point, all that it takes is the ball to start rolling for it to continue too.... more apps people here about the more they are going to make that there option...

Re Palm Survival of the Weakest

all true....

but the problem mostly lies on the weak SDK.... Palm gotta get the ball rolling on that if they want real apps to be developed, webapps wont cut it (i thought they learned that from when the iphone first started supporting only webapps...) look at the pathetic selection in the catalog... its a prime example of what talented developers can do with suck a limited SDK

Coreplayer, Kinoma Play, and Documents To Go devs were exited to make their award winning apps for webos till they hit a dead end with the crappy sdk... so no go. They stated that their apps will have to be put on hold till Palm makes a significant update...

damn that does say a lot right there if skilled developers as the above so mentioned are placing it on hold as well.... dont know what is taing palm so long with that, they should have had the sdk complete or near complete in good working order by time the phone came out... might have came back to bite them in the ass.
