Smartphones with 2nm chipsets could arrive in 2025



According to a recent report, it was revealed that TSMC is expected to begin mass production of 3nm chipsets in the second half of the year, but it seems that we might have to wait quite a bit before we see the process shrink even further.This is according to a report from DigiTimes who claims that TSMC is expected to only begin production of chipsets based on the 2nm process in 2025, meaning that we have to wait about 3 years before we see phones using those chipsets.

In case you’re wondering why this is a big deal, there’s more to chipsets than how many cores it has and how fast it runs. The actual size of the die is also important because the smaller the die, the closer the circuits are to each other, which in turn makes them faster and more energy efficient.

This is why even though there are other companies capable of producing chips, like Intel and Samsung, many are turning to TSMC due to the advancements the company has made on this front. There are several high-profile companies like Apple, Qualcomm, and MediaTek who are using TSMC for the production of their chipsets.

That being said, 2025 is still quite far off so anything could happen in between, but it will be interesting to see how big the changes will be going from a 3nm chipset to one built using the 2nm process.
