Fitbit Faces Lawsuit After User Sustains Injuries
Fitbit Faces Lawsuit After User Sustains Injuries
Fitbit’s smartwatches and fitness trackers have been some of the most popular and best-selling wearable devices on the market. However, a new lawsuit claims that several users were injured after sustaining burns on their wrists, which were allegedly caused while using the devices. According to the lawsuit, the burn injuries were caused by the Fitbit Versa and Fitbit Sense devices. The lawsuit comes after the company was forced to recall its Ionic smartwatch, as the device was prone to overheating and causing burns to wearers. Fitbit also issued refunds to owners of the device. Reports say that there were reportedly more than 100 cases of the Fitbit Ionic overheating, including 78 reports of injuries in the U.S. Fitbit has previously mentioned that wearing the band too tight might cause some redness or irritation in the skin, although the company has admitted that the Ionic smartwatch is prone to overheating under “very limited instances.” Additionally, users have been posting photos that show significant skin damage to their wrists caused by overheating from the devices. Fitbit was purchased by Google a few years back, with the latter working to integrate Fitbit’s health-tracking services and technology into new and upcoming hardware, such as the upcoming Pixel Watch.
