Samsung Bixby update introduces new hands-free features

In order to prevent digital assistants from accidentally running, companies like Google, Amazon, Apple, and Samsung have introduced trigger words that will activate the digital assistant. The problem is that it doesn’t feel particularly natural and can get annoying to repeat over time. With Samsung, to activate Bixby, users will need to say “Hi Bixby”, but in a recent update to the digital assistant, it looks like Samsung is introducing new hands-free features to the digital assistant.

With the latest update that bumps it up to version 3.2.12.16, users will now be able to accept calls and stop alarms from ringing by saying “Accept call” or “Stop the alarm”. This means that instead of saying, “Hi Bixby, accept call” when a phone call comes in, users just need to say “Accept call” and the call will be answered.

This type of conversational update isn’t new to digital assistants as other digital assistants like Google Assistant and Alexa already support something similar of their own, so it’s good to see that Samsung is bringing it to Bixby.

That being said, the feature is only available for Samsung’s higher-end newer phones like the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, Galaxy S22 Ultra, Galaxy Z Flip 3, and the Galaxy Z Fold 3, but the company says that they do plan to expand its availability to older Galaxy handsets in the future, but when exactly is anyone’s guess.
