ORTUR?s Laser Master 2 S2makes laser engraving more accessible to everyone

Have you ever noticed those cool pieces of artwork where you see a piece of wood or acrylic or even metal that comes with art engraved upon it? It seems like it would actually make for a great personalized gift for someone, or if you wanted to create a signboard for your restaurant or home. You might be thinking that getting access to a laser engraver would be difficult, expensive, and possibly dangerous if you have no clue how to operate one, but that doesn’t necessarily have to be the case. The ORTUR Laser Master 2 S2 is actually a great example of that where it is relatively compact and affordable enough that you can get one for yourself and put it in your home studio.

Ease of installation

The idea of working with lasers might sound a bit intimidating and yes, while there are laser engraving and cutting machines out there that are clearly designed for professional use, it doesn’t mean that they are all like that. The Laser Master 2 S2 has been designed with ease of installation in mind.

The machine features a pre-assembled frame that helps reduce the overall parts that come with the package, making the rest of the installation more straightforward. The company claims that even a novice user shouldn’t run into any trouble with the installation which should take about 10 minutes to finish putting together.

The Laser Master 2 S2 itself features the use of high-density aluminum for its frame construction, with powder-coated steel material, and the graduation lines have been precisely marked so that users can measure things out quickly and easily.

It also measures 580*550*150MM / 22.83″ x 21.65″ x 5.91″ so it shouldn’t take up too much space, especially if you might be working out of your bedroom or garage.

Safety considerations

We’re sure many of you have seen movies that have lasers involved and it looks like it could be quite scary – after all, no one wants to lose a finger! With the Laser Master 2 S2, ORTUR has designed the machine with several safety considerations.

This includes how if the machine were to detect abnormal movements, the laser will immediately stop working. This means that you don’t have to worry about the laser continuing to function if something were to go wrong. It will also stop working when your system is off and the USB cable is unplugged, so users who want that extra peace of mind can simply unplug it while not in use just to be safe.

For those who might be forgetful and leave the machine on (but not operational), ORTUR says that if the machine is left in a control state but the user forgets to use it or if it’s sitting idle, it will automatically stop working to prevent accidents.

Last but not least, the Laser Master 2 S2 will also be able to detect when the connected system goes to sleep, in which the machine will then shut itself down.

ORTUR has also equipped the laser module with a protective cover that they say will be able to isolate 95% of the laser beam, so unless you’re purposely aiming the laser at yourself, all these built-in safety measures should prevent serious accidents from taking place.

Support for different types of materials

Unless you happen to own an industrial-grade laser engraving machine, you might be worried that a smaller model like the Laser Master 2 S2 might not be able to get the job done, especially for denser materials like metal, but that isn’t the case here.

With the Laser Master 2 S2, users will be able to choose from three different laser heads – LU2-2 / LU2-4 SF / LU2-4 LF, each with its own power output so depending on your needs and materials, there will be a head that can suit it. The machine will also use a point compression technology that can make the engraving more accurate, especially if you are working with smaller pieces.

Some of the materials that the Laser Master 2 S2 can cut include Wood Board, Paperboard, Black Acrylic, Leather, Food, Stainless Steel, and Powder Coated Metal, for example. It also has an engraving speed that can go up to 10,000mm/min, thanks to the use of the OLMS2-V10 motherboard.

Software support

The problem we’ve seen with some smaller machines is that they tend to rely on proprietary software to get the job done, but with the Laser Master 2 S2, ORTUR has ensured that it will be compatible with either LaserGRBL or LightBurn, which are some of the more popular choices in the industry.

It will also play nicely not just with Windows machines, but Mac computers as well, so it will support quite a wide variety of users running on different systems.
