Re: Please I need help
We need to know the error message you got and the kind of hard drive setup you have, is it a RAID? is it just one hard drive? did you format it into NTFS? FAT32? FAT16? EXT3? EXT2? >.<

Re: Please I need help
I am not sure what it formatted to, I had windows Xp pro then I started getting unmountable boot loader error, tried getting the recovery cd, but was not able to use it so i tried installing windows XP seven from here but when I inserted the disk it said it had to format the computer, and me the big dummy thought ok maybe it was the right thing to do...but I guess not.. so when it finished formatting and tried running the same disk I put in because I downloaded it from this website and made an iso cd from a laptop I had that has windows vista....but then it gave a partmgr sys-addr f87c2726 base@ F87, I tried again and it gave page fault in non paged area and finally can't find hard disk and when I pressed F2 and went to my setting it did not show my hard disk drive, it says not installed.....this is all I can tell you I am sorry I don't know what it formatted it to...

Re: Please I need help
Hmmm, well it sounds like your Boot.ini file was messed up. That was your original problem, but a simple "repair" from the OS disk shoulda cleared that up. I really dont know why your running into more problems now. It leads me to think there is something wrong with the CD you have now. Do you happen to have any other OS cd's laying around you could try and see if it gives you the same problem?

Re: Please I need help
actually the cd I used was one that I made using magic iso, I don't have any other cd, does this mean I have to go buy a windows XP cd? Plus I didn't have the actual OS disk that's why i was putting the new windows XP on...at least I thought I was...

Re: Please I need help
I would check your bios out and see how you harddrive is setup. You need to know more about the computer like if you are running a SATA or IDE hard drive in the computer, if you have more than one harddrive. Did you originally setup the computer? was it purchased from a store? Did someone set it up for you? To me it sounds like somewhere a driver is getting screwed up for the harddrive.

Re: Please I need help
There is a C and D drive prolly because it was partitioned while it was in XP.
You were having issues and then you loaded WindowsXP 7 onto it, since you didn't have any of the original discs? You made the iso image on your laptop which is running vista and then put it into your pc that was running xp? Do you know which drive you told it to go to? I've looked and looked and have yet to find a SS260. I have found the SX and GX models of the 260. The GX is the P4 version. Best I can do so far is tell you that I have found a couple of versions of the system restore command. Since you say it installed and then didn't find the hard disc, there is prolly an issue with the drivers. I will tell you that the system restore with leave you without any of the info that you had. Given the situation that you are in now, I'm guessing that it's better than nothing. Found two ways so far to do the system restore. First one is to turn it off, turn it back on and as it comes up, either hold down or start tapping F2; no decisive answer as to which works. Second one is to turn it off, turn it back on and as it comes back up; hold down CTRL and start hitting F11 I found several Dell forums and some minimal support at Dell's own website. You may need to go there to get some of your drivers if you do decide to restore it. Good luck, hope it helps. |

Re: Please I need help
nero let me change it to 2x which is slow enough to have a sucessful burn. Also, make sure you have any unnessecary apps closed and not running in the backround.
