Androids robot mascot is now called The Bot

One of the crucial parts of Android's identity is the Android robot, which people refer to as the bugdroid. Back in September, Google updated its Android branding. As a part of that effort, it introduced a new design for the Android robot. Well, Google has now also given a new name to the Android robot, and now it is called The Bot.

Google revealed the new name in a blog post where the company listed out the top four experiences that people should try out at CES 2024. Google also displayed cameos of The Bot on the Sphere in Las Vegas. Plus, the new logo was all over the city during the entire event with it wrapped around billboards and monorail.

The new design has a 3D appearance as opposed to the 2D look of the old one. The new mascot has a dome with legs protruding out of it. According to Google, it gives “more dimension, and a lot more character”. The company says that it drew inspiration for the new mascot from the Material design to “complement the Google brand palette.”

According to Google, the new design can “easily transition between digital and real-life environments, making it a versatile and reliable companion across channels, platforms and contexts.” Back then, the company said that we’d start seeing the new Android branding on Android devices and more places in 2023 but that hasn’t happened yet.
